Christmas Donations Support Emergency, Critical Care and Trauma Services
"Christmas is a time to celebrate with friends and family,” says Glenn Craig, President & CEO, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. “This Christmas season we are reminded that there is nothing more important than the health of our loved ones. Your donation ensures that exceptional healthcare is available to them, when it’s needed most.”
Last year, over 100,000 people turned to the Emergency Department of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in need of care. The Health Sciences Foundation is encouraging the people of Northwestern Ontario to support the Emergency, Critical Care, and Trauma services that save lives on a daily basis.
“Our Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the country. Despite the extreme demand for service, we have shorter wait times than the provincial average for non-admitted patients,” explains Rhonda Crocker Ellacott, Executive VP, Patient Care, Health Professions & Chief Nursing Executive , Health Sciences Centre. “In order to continue to provide the best care possible, we must meet a constant need to replace aging equipment and purchase new, leading-edge, life-saving technologies for patient care. Your donations make that possible.”
The Emergency Department at the Health Sciences Centre provides a sense of comfort for Kelli-Gothard McKinnon, whose family has accessed emergency care. “I’ve had to take my children to the Emergency Department on several occasions, and the care we have received has always been exceptional,” she says. “No one wants to find themselves in need of emergency healthcare – but it happens. As a mother, it is reassuring to know that we have such excellent Emergency, Critical Care and Trauma services that I can count on to care for my family when we need it most.”
Past support from generous donors has made an incredible difference, and helped build the exceptional Emergency, Critical Care and Trauma Services we have today. “Each donation, large or small, has a real impact on the lives of our families, friends and neighbours,” says Craig. “Thanks to the continued support of our generous community, more families enjoy health and happiness together at Christmas.”
The Grand Christmas Tree now stands in the main lobby of the Health Sciences Centre as a reminder that Christmas is a time for community. With each donation, a star bearing the name of the generous donor is added to the tree. Donors also have the option of sending a star with a personalized message to a caregiver at the Health Sciences Centre.
Help fill the tree with stars! To make a donation in support of life-saving Emergency, Critical Care and Trauma services, call 345-4673 or visit www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca.
