Database Intern

Position Title:     Database Intern

Purpose of Position

The Database Intern will lead efforts to formalize data management policies and procedures under the direction of the Finance & Administrative Officer in order to ensure the Foundations electronic resources are managed, accessed and updated effectively.



Responsibilities


The Database Intern facilitates data management policies and procedures as directed by the Finance & Administrative Officer. The responsibilities of the Database Intern include but are not limited to:


Research of sample policy and procedure for data management, including database and shared network access.


Analysis of current database management procedures, including acquiring a working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and related modules.


Solicit and integrate input from all staff to develop standards of data entry, access and maintenance.


Assist with implementation, including staff training, of new policies and procedures.


Develop a set of criteria for the evaluation policies and procedures.


Conduct evaluation, suggest revisions and provide direction for future evaluation.


Liaise with software vendor (Blackbaud) as well as Information Technology department of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center as directed by the Finance & Administrative Officer.


Liaise with functional areas of the Foundation, including: Administration, Communications, Development and Finance.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


The Database Intern has knowledge of current information systems. Experience working with Raiser’s Edge and an understanding of its capabilities and limitations are an asset. Additional knowledge of fund development is valuable.


The ability to exercise effective judgment is essential.


The Database Intern will be an above average communicator – both written and oral. This position also demands knowledge of and sensitivity to a variety of populations and situations including patients and their families, donors and recognition programs. Superior interpersonal skills are imperative.

The Database Intern is able to handle multiple projects with competing timelines.

The Database Intern maintains a customer service focus in all interactions with Foundation constituencies including, but not limited to, donors, volunteers, board members, patients and Health Sciences Centre staff.

The ability to work comfortably in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Publisher and electronic mail and operate office equipment (i.e. copiers, computers, printers) is also required.    Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is an asset.

A G-class driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is valuable.

Qualifications


As per funding requirements, the intern will be:


·    unemployed or underemployed youth (persons under the age of 30);


·    graduated within the last three (3) years with a degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution. Exceptions to this rule will require prior written consent from FedNor;


·    legally entitled to work in Canada;


·    not have previously participated as a youth intern in FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program or in any other federal or provincial internship program with pay for a period of six (6) months or more;


·    not be related to members of the directors, officers or managers of the recipient unless prior written consent is obtained from FedNor.


And/or have some experience in database maintenance, shared network access protocol, and policy/procedure development, implementation and evaluation. Experience working with multiple stakeholder groups is an asset.
