Donation enhances care for mothers, babies and children
A soft spot for babies and children has translated to a $25,000 donation. The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Vince Mirabelli Paediatric Endowment Fund. The endowment will provide ongoing funds to help care for the precious patient of Maternal and Child services at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
The funds will support a variety of services to mothers, newborns and children, including labour & delivery, neonatal intensive care, paediatrics and child and adolescent mental health. Nancy Persichino, Director of Maternal and Child Services, says the funds will go a long way to improve care for patients. “It’s a relief to know these funds will always be here,” she says. “We want to provide the best care possible and there is a constant need to replace and upgrade special paediatric equipment.”
“I know what it’s like to spend time in the hospital as a child. I just love kids and want to help them feel comfortable when they’re sick,” explains Mirabelli. His decision to establish an endowment fund is based not only on his own experiences as a child, but also on his confidence that others will contribute to it. “It was important to me to create this fund before I reached 30, and I am actively encouraging others to donate so that more can be done for children who need care here.”
“Mr. Mirabelli’s generousity is extraordinary,” says Foundation Senior Development Officer Jennifer Laakkonen. “He volunteers countless hours, rallies support from the community and now presents this exceptional gift. He sincerely cares for the people in this community.”
The Vince Mirabelli Paediatric Endowment Fund will provide funds in perpetuity providing a legacy of care for children in Northwestern Ontario. Vince Mirabelli’s $25,000 gift to create this fund is just the beginning. As the principle amount of the fund grows with contributions from additional donors, so will the level of support provided annually to Maternal and Child Services.
