Honour a Special Life
Your gift to the Health Sciences Foundation in memory of your loved one is a fitting tribute and a lasting legacy. When you honour a life by making a donation to the Health Sciences Foundation, you support excellence in healthcare for the people of Northwestern Ontario. You can choose to direct your gift to the area of highest need, to one of our specialty funds: the Northern Cancer Fund, the Northern Cardiac Fund, or to any specific area of care at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
A permanent memory will be established through our Legacy of Care Memorial program.
A champion honoured, a family comforted
Jim Johnson had a vision for Northwestern Ontario and he worked passionately to make it a reality. When he passed away, the people who cared about him made sure Jim’s dreams persevered.
“Jim was dedicated to healthcare in our community,” says Jim’s wife Judy Johnson. “He constantly strived to expand services, grow the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and attract medical professionals to Northwestern Ontario.”
Jim, a senior partner of the Cheadles law firm in Thunder Bay, applied his energy to making a difference. He volunteered in many capacities to help strengthen healthcare for everyone. He also encouraged others to get involved.
When Jim passed away in June, 2008, Northwestern Ontario lost an effective friend and promoter. However, Jim’s family ensured that his legacy would live on.
They asked that friends and family members wishing to honour Jim do so by making a donation to the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
“Jim was so well cared for at Regional Cancer Care at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre,” Judy explains. “We wanted to give back, not only to support patient care, but also to support the research that will help identify the causes, cures and new treatments for cancer.”
Friends and family contributed more than $10,000 in honour of Jim Johnson. Just as meaningful as the impact the funds will have on patient care is the overwhelming sense of support and love Jim’s family felt with each gift made in his memory. “I knew Jim was giving and selfless. I knew he touched the lives of many people, but I didn’t know just how much he meant to others. When people decided to give in honour of Jim’s life and support his vision, we were deeply touched,” Judy says.
