Special Occasion Gifts Make a Difference!
Charitable gifts make a particularly meaningful gift for weddings. A Thunder Bay couple encouraged their wedding guests to make charitable donations in lieu of gifts. Drs. Jennifer Atwood and Matthew Holmes included a note in their wedding invitations, asking guests to consider making donations in honour of their marriage and their grandparents.
“We both feel fortunate and have everything we need,” says Atwood. “We knew there were other people with greater needs.” Atwood and Holmes also opted to forego the purchase of favours for guests and instead made a donation to the Health Sciences Foundation. Note cards on the dinner tables thanked guests for sharing their day and informed them that the bride and groom had made a donation in their honour. “Many of our guests had never heard of this practice before. They were impressed,” Atwood says. Wedding guests often find this new trend an ideal alternative to traditional gifts; it is a great way help make exceptional care possible for everyone in our community.
The generosity and thoughtfulness of the couple and their wedding guests resulted in a total donation of $3925.00. The Atwood/Holmes donation helped to purchase the equipment required to upgrade operating suites at the Health Sciences Centre, enabling surgical patients of all ages to make quicker, less painful recoveries.
