Celebration of Life

The Celebration of Life Wall  is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Shirley Inouye and recognizes her long service to the healthcare community.

Dr. Inouye was the first female physician to have a full-time family practice in Thunder Bay and is believed to be the first woman of Japanese descent to earn a MD in Canada.  Her special interest was obstetrics and she delivered over 3,000 babies during a 30 year career. Dr. Inouye, after a courageous battle with cancer, died on July 22, 2001.

Dr. Inouye would have been very proud to be associated with the First Marks program that recognizes her dedication and commitment to the children born in this community as well as their families.  As she left her marks in this community, so will the children born at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
