Dinos Deliver Hope
Proceeds from children’s book donated to Northern Cancer Fund

It all started back when Bob Hoffman’s kids were young. “When I put my son to bed, he’d want me to tell him a story. I started making up this story about dinosaurs and each night he requested a new chapter. It got to the point where I needed to write them into a book,” he laughed.
Fast forward several years and Hoffman’s book is available for families all over to enjoy. Titled ‘Dinosaurs of Prenaria’, it features 2 boys who find themselves on a mysterious island filled with dinosaurs. “It’s a great read for any age,” he said. “From 9 to 90!”
When the book was published, Hoffman decided he wanted to donate $1 from each sale to the Northern Cancer Fund to support cancer patients. “I’ve had several family members pass away from cancer, including my Dad, Father-in-Law and my cousin. They each received care here at our Cancer Centre and it was fantastic. I wanted to give back in their memory.”
Last August, Hoffman, who is the President of Unifor Local 39, had the opportunity to travel to Unifor’s Ontario Regional Council where there were over 2,000 delegates. “I went up on stage to talk about the book and Jerry Dias, the President of Unifor, decided then and there to make a motion to purchase 1,000 books. I was floored when it passed.” The books were distributed across Canada, as well as to Unifor’s training facility in Port Elgin, Ontario. “Thanks to Jerry’s motion, I was able to recently present a $1,000 donation to the Northern Cancer Fund. It’s nice to know this donation will stay here at our local facility to support treatment.” Hoffman also donated a copy of the book to the Paediatric Unit at the Hospital. “I hope it can help transport kids and get their mind off being in the Hospital,” he said.
Dinosaurs of Prenaria is available for sale at Chapters or through Bob Hoffman. $15 for a soft cover or $30 hard cover (with Hoffman’s autograph). For more information, you can contact Hoffman at 631-3439. $1 from each sale supports the Northern Cancer Fund.
