Message from Kyle Shaen
Chair, Board of Directors, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation
August 24, 2019
Whether you’re a student or not, September has that certain “Back to School” feeling to it, don’t you think? If you take a bit of a break over the summer months – or at least take things a bit slower – the day after Labour Day is like the New Year’s of the work year.
That’s certainly the case for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s Board of Directors. We’ll be back in full swing soon, helping to find new ways of improving health care in Northwestern Ontario. Our goal is always to make sure we put our donors’ gifts to the best use. It’s a responsibility that I take very seriously, and I know everyone else on the Board does too.
Our generous donors help us in that respect. You may not know that you can direct your gift to a specific area of the Hospital. Perhaps cancer care is very important to you, or paediatrics, or cardiac care. You can get as specific as you would like, such as “adult mental health”. Many of our donors tell us how much they appreciate being able to choose where their dollars go.
The Board picks up on those cues. We see where those donations are being directed, and it gives us a very good idea of what Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario finds to be important.
September is also a great time of year to start thinking about your year-end donation. What is important to you? Of course, quality health care is the top of many people’s lists. I look at the difference your donations have made over the years, and it’s incredible. Advances in cancer care, surgery, regional programs, orthopaedics, diagnostic imaging – the list goes on! Your donations helped bring cutting-edge equipment and treatments to Northwestern Ontario.
Some people who have been busy this summer are our great event coordinators and volunteers. In August we had the Daryl Penasi Memorial Golf Tournament, the Central Canada Industries Golf Tournament, and the Thunder Bay Police Association Golf Tournament. Others are hard at work getting ready for events in September including the Central Canada Industries Charity Ride and the Tbaytel Luncheon of Hope featuring High Tea this year. Thanks to all who helped put these events together!
And thanks especially to all who continue to support the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. With your help, we are Together, For Better.
