Message from Parker Jones

Chair, Board of Directors, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation

For many of us here at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, part of what makes shaking off the winter so special this year is the return of many of our fundraisers. Events such as the Tbaytel Motorcycle Ride for Dad and the Canada Life Cava Memorial Golf Tournament are social events as much as anything, even drawing participants from out of town. Sometimes, it means an opportunity to see people we haven’t been in touch with for four years or more.

We took that social aspect for granted. I’ve heard from many people just how much they missed getting out during the pandemic and seeing those people at events year after year. Getting together like this has a whole new meaning now that we know what it’s like not being able to get together. We thrive on social interaction, and I, for one, am looking forward to going to more of these events this year.

If you haven’t participated in any of these events, I encourage you to come out. Most often, people enter in groups, but individuals also sign up. Find out more about upcoming events here: https://www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca/event-schedule. And if you don’t ride a motorcycle or swing a golf club, our events always need volunteers to make sure they run smoothly. You can volunteer through https://www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca/volunteer

You might also consider holding your own fundraiser in support of the Health Sciences Foundation. Every year, we help new community-driven events get off the ground. We can help guide you through the process including how to get started, give you some things to think about while you’re planning, and how the Health Sciences Foundation can support you as you develop your ideas. Creating events may seem overwhelming, but we can help launch your fundraising event in Thunder Bay or Northwestern Ontario easier. Find out more here: https://www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca/host-an-event or contact our Events Officer Haley directly at haley.werbowetski@healthsciencesfoundation.ca or 807-684-7113.

Let’s make this year a special one. I look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming events this summer.

Parker Jones
