Chemo Kits Coming Along!

Kim Francis is well on her way to her goal of providing a care kit, or ‘chemo kit’, to every chemotherapy patient at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in 2019. Each kit includes some of the items that Kim used to ease some of the side effects of chemotherapy, such as tissues for watery eyes and lip balm for dry lips - as well as just a little something to brighten anyone's day.

In addition to fundraising through her online page at healthsciencesfoundation.ca/chemokits, several community events have also chosen to donate their funds raised to Kim’s Chemo Kit initiative including:

Barbells for Boobs

For the second year, Superior Crossfit held their breast cancer fundraiser, Barbells for Boobs, in support of the Northern Cancer Fund. With Kim slated to speak at the event, they also committed to donating enough funds to purchase 20 chemo kits. In total, $3,500 was raised with a portion being directed to Chemo Kits, and the remainder being allocated to the Northern Cancer Fund for breast cancer.

St. Ignatius High School – Dress Down Day

On the last Friday of every month, St. Ignatius High School collects donations for Dress Down Day. In October the students & staff raised $1,400 for the Northern Cancer Fund in memory of Mrs. Bosch. Specifically, they supported Kim's Chemo Kit Fundraiser, and their $1,400 donation will provide 6 weeks of kits to new chemotherapy patients in 2019.

Zumbathon

More than 70 participants danced the night away in October, all in support of Kim’s Chemo Kit initiative. With special guest Zumba Jammer Kellie Davis from Halifax, Nova Scotia in attendance, this event raised more than $2,300!
