Showcasing some of the instruments for the Operating Room that were purchased thanks to donations from employees at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre are (l-r) Jody Nesti, Chair, Board of Directors, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation; Robert Scott Srigley, Chair, Employee Giving Committee and Senior IT Technologist; Mark Kusznier, Employee Giving Committee Member and Renal Biomedical Technologist and Katie Crowe, Manager, Corporate Brand Communications, Tbaytel.

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is internationally known for its patient- and family-centred care. But it should also be recognized for the incredible donations made by its employees back to the facility where they work.

In 2017, employees raised $98,977 (a 15% increase from last year) through donations from payroll deduction, along with a few special initiatives, including ‘Elfing an Employee’ at Christmas and candy sales around the Hospital. With our generous partner, Tbaytel, who matched donations up to $10,000, the final tally raised came to $108,977!

Employees have the choice of where they’d like to designate their donation, and it can be to anywhere within the Hospital. However, the three most popular choices were the Employee Giving Fund, the Area of Highest Need and the Northern Cancer Fund.

Thanks to our fantastic employee donors, multiple new pieces of equipment have been purchased including:

  • Cystoscopy Instruments and Skull Base Instruments for the Operating Room

  • Maloney Dilators for Endoscopy

  • A Specialty Bed for Adult Mental Health

  • A Mobius 3D Brachytherapy Module for the Medical Physics/Regional Cancer Care

  • A Syringe Pump for the Recovery Room/Post Anesthesia Area

  • And 2 Bedside Sleep Chairs for Units 3B and 3C

Interested in becoming an Employee Donor? It’s easy! Visit healthsciencesfoundation.ca/imin to sign up or call 345-4673.

You can choose how much to give per pay period and where to designate your donation anywhere in the Hospital.

Robert Scott Srigley, the Chair of the Employee Giving Committee and Senior IT Technologist, recognized each donor at a recent luncheon celebrating their generosity. “I’m proud to stand beside each of you who has chosen to be an employee donor. Together we are making our hospital better every day for our patients and their families.” Added Srigley, “The support we receive from Tbaytel for this program is also outstanding. They have matched donations for several years and continue to challenge us to grow this program so that we can support the ongoing needs of our Hospital.”

"Last year, Tbaytel committed to match new hospital employee donors and current donors who increased their donations, up to $10,000 to the Employee Giving Program," said Katie Crowe, Manager of Corporate Brand Communication at Tbaytel. "Tbaytel invests in people and organizations – like this matching program in partnership with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation – that help to create a stronger, healthier and more vibrant community. We are all members of this community, so improved patient care affects us all. Tbaytel is very proud to support your efforts."
