Letting Go of Hair Helps Cancer Care

For soon-to-be 11 year-old St. Ann’s student, Mya Boucher (left), cutting off her lengthy hair wasn’t something to be feared – on the contrary – it was a reason to celebrate as she was able to raise $640 for the Northern Cancer Fund to provide exceptional cancer care to residents of Northwestern Ontario.

“My head felt a lot lighter once it was cut,” she laughed.  Donations from friends and family, as well as her Tae Kwon Do Club were gratefully received in support of her hair cut, with her largest donation  ($200) from Northern Windows – her uncle’s workshop. “My Aunty Michelle helped me a lot with my fundraising,” Mya said. “I liked reading all the texts she got on her phone with people making donations!”

Mya’s cut and fundraising was inspired by wanting to do something in honour of her classmate’s mother, who had cancer. “I’ve known him since daycare,” she said, “and I liked doing something that could help.”
