Any excuse to get out for a ride in the winter on a snowmobile is generally a worthy one, but for the Marathon Sno-Kickers, their annual Ride in support of the Tbaytel Tamarack House provided riders with some extra incentive.
“We began doing our Ride in 2013 in memory of one of our members who passed away from cancer, and who wished that donations be made in his memory to the Tbaytel Tamarack House,” said President, Craig Colbourne. “After that first year, we just kept the Ride going, and we’re into our 5th year with a total of $8,000 raised!”
This year’s Ride had about 60 riders who ventured out from Marathon to Dunc Lake. Funds raised were through registration fees and a successful penny auction with multiple prizes donated from local businesses.
Colbourne recently had the opportunity to tour the Tbaytel Tamarack House – a home away from home for cancer patients and their families who travel to Thunder Bay for treatment – and was very impressed with the facility. “There’s such a relaxed, community environment. It really has that feeling of home.”
