Students Participate in Hospital's Indigenous Career Experience Program

March 15, 2017

Indigenous students had a special sneak-peak into the many different health care career options available at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The Indigenous Career Experience (ICE) Program, held on Monday, March 6th, included tours, presentations and hands-on activities.

“The ICE program is a great way to introduce Indigenous youth to a variety of career possibilities that exist within health care,” explains Carmen Blais, Indigenous Engagement Lead. “The tours, presentations, and hands-on experiences provide the students with a good understanding of how our Hospital works, and hopefully inspires them to pursue career opportunities with us.”

Approximately 60 high school students from the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, Lakehead Public Schools, and Matawa Learning Centre participated.

The ICE program also hopes to inspire Indigenous students to get involved as volunteers at our Health Sciences Centre. In addition to helping students earn their mandatory volunteer hours, volunteering can provide a lot of valuable career experiences for students.
