What does an oil change have to do with cancer care?

$1 from every oil change performed at Wakefield Oil Change Plus is donated to the Northern Cancer Fund, thanks to owner Gary Linquist and his family. In just over a year, they’ve donated $7,600 to keep exceptional cancer care in Northwestern Ontario.

For the past year, when clients get an oil change at Wakefield Oil Change Plus, cancer care in Northwestern Ontario gets an added boost. Because for every oil change performed, owner Gary Linquist has been donating $1 to the Northern Cancer Fund.

As of July 31, $7,600 has been donated; all to keep exceptional cancer care closer to home.

Linquist explained the reason for giving to cancer care. “Back when I was President of the Thunder Bay Kings, we always did some fundraisers for cancer. Since then, my wife and I have become owners of Wakefield Oil Change Plus, and it was important to our family that we continue to support local cancer care.”

Continued Linquist, “We’ve had many relatives who’ve had cancer, and sadly, passed away. I think it’s vitally important that we continue to support local access to the very best cancer care there is. Ideally I envision our cancer centre becoming so well known that people want to travel here, from outside of Northwestern Ontario, for their care.”

For his part Linquist has no plans of an end date for donations. “We’re very proud to contribute to our community and advance cancer care in Northwestern Ontario. I want to keep this going as long as we can.”

You can find Gary and the team at Wakefield Oil Change Plus at 311 Cumberland St. N.
