Westfort Shows Its Heart for Local Cardiovascular Surgery

Last Saturday, a number of Health Sciences Foundation team members participated in the 44th Annual Westfort Street Fair, where visitors to the Foundation's booth could sign a heart to be included in a special time capsule that will be inserted into a wall inside the Hospital's new Cardiovascular Surgery wing, currently under construction.
But some of the most meaningful moments happened in the conversations at the booth. Foundation team members spoke with many people who were curious about the new addition to the Hospital, wanted to know more about what's coming, or shared their own personal connections to cardiovascular care.
For some, it was even a chance to learn for the first time what the new addition to the Hospital will bring to the community.
One thing came through loud and clear: people are excited to finally have cardiovascular surgery available here at home.
When the time capsule is opened 50 years from now, the hearts inside will be a reminder of the community that was here as this historic transformation in local healthcare was taking shape and of the people whose support is helping make it possible.
And there are still more hearts to add!
The Health Sciences Foundation will continue collecting hearts in the months ahead, both in the community and at the Hospital, giving as many people as possible the opportunity to add their name to this special piece of local history.
Those who missed the Foundation at the Street Fair will have another opportunity to visit the Health Sciences Foundation at Harbourfest on August 27, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
