Health Sciences Foundation Reaches and Surpasses Giving Tuesday Goals

Brooke H., RN, NICU, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, thanks all donors for their Giving Tuesday support.

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is celebrating an incredible Giving Tuesday. Donors on December 2nd stepped up in a remarkable way, surpassing the original goal of $30,567 and a stretch goal of $56,040, ultimately raising $73,512.65 in just 24 hours.

By 1 p.m. on Giving Tuesday, donations had already reached the initial target to purchase a new isolette for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). By 7 p.m., the stretch goal had also been surpassed, allowing the Foundation to fund two urgently needed pieces of equipment.

In total, 206 donors contributed $73,512.65. The funds raised will support the purchase of:

  • A new isolette for the NICU, offering a safe, secure environment where the tiniest patients can grow stronger while staying warm and closely monitored.
  • A birthing bed for the Emergency Department, ensuring women who arrive with urgent OBGYN needs have proper positioning, privacy, and support.

This year also marked a major milestone: the Foundation's tenth Giving Tuesday. Across 240 cumulative campaign hours over the past decade, donors have now contributed more than $500,000 to support the purchase of vital medical equipment throughout the Hospital.

“The support for Giving Tuesday is outstanding,” said Lindsay Doran-Bonk, Manager, Digital Engagement at the Foundation, “When we really put our hat in the ring ten years ago, I'd never have imagined we'd reach half a million in donations. It honestly makes my heart so full.

“I don't know who looks forward to the day more – me or our donors!” she added, “There are a lot of people who love being part of the excitement.”

A significant boost to this year's success also came from an anonymous local family who offered a $15,000 matching gift, doubling the impact of donations to the isolette. Their generosity played a key role in helping the Foundation surpass both fundraising targets.

The Foundation extends its deepest appreciation to every donor who gave, shared, encouraged, or supported the campaign. This memorable Giving Tuesday will have a lasting impact on patient care, especially for newborns and women requiring urgent treatment at the Health Sciences Centre.

Here's a little thank you message from all of us.
