With game day just around the corner on February 8th, hosting just got easier and more meaningful. New Thunder Bay catering company Gusterra is serving up ready-to-heat appetizer platters designed to take the stress out of entertaining, while raising funds to support cardiac care through the Northern Cardiac Fund.

Owned and operated by Theo Sundell and Beckham Thompson, Gusterra brings over a decade of combined experience to the food industry and is kicking off the launch of their catering company with a fun game day platter fundraiser featuring a variety of delicious appetizers that hosts can just heat, serve, and enjoy.

Pre-orders open January 21 and close February 4. Platters can be ordered online at www.gusterra.ca  and picked up at the RFDA at 570 Syndicate Ave. on Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8 between 12:00–4:00 p.m.

“Food and football go hand in hand, and we wanted to make it easy for people who are hosting,” said Thompson, co-owner of Gusterra. “We had a lot of fun putting the menu together, and we honestly think there's something on the platter for everyone. You just heat it up, put it out, and you're good to go, while supporting a great cause.”

For Sundell, giving back is especially meaningful, as cardiac health has had a huge impact on his own family. “My mom experienced a heart attack last year and is still in and out of the hospital, while my dad previously experienced a stroke,” said Sundell. “Supporting the Northern Cardiac Fund felt like the right cause and a way to help other families right here at home.”

Each platter includes six appetizers and comes with heating directions:

  • Miso glazed wings with dip

  • Pulled pork sliders with coleslaw

  • Maple bacon and jalapeño nachos

  • Smoked Gouda dip

  • Spinach and artichoke dip

  • Garlic and parmesan wedges

Platters are available in two sizes:

  • Platter for 6: $110 ($25 donated to the Northern Cardiac Fund)

  • Platter for 10: $160 ($35 donated to the Northern Cardiac Fund)

“This is such a great example of how fundraising can be both impactful and fun,” said Jenelle Dawson, Development Assistant, Events, with the Health Sciences Foundation. “I had the chance to sample the platter and it was genuinely some of the best appetizers I've had in a long time. We're grateful to Gusterra for choosing to support the Northern Cardiac Fund, and we can't wait to see the community enjoy these platters and rally behind the cause.”
