Thunder Bay 50/50 helps purchase equipment for Labour & Delivery

Thanks to the Thunder Bay 50/50, a new operating table and microscope have been purchased for the Labour & Delivery department at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

The Thunder Bay 50/50 Draw has awarded winners over $8 million in prizes since it started in January 2021.  This is great news for our prize winners, and perhaps more importantly, every ticket sold has help fund vital medical equipment for patients in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.

The Labour & Delivery department at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre requires equipment replacement and upgrades for safe delivery for mother and baby. Thunder Bay 50/50 participants are making it happen!

Proceeds from the Thunder Bay 50/50 have funded a new adjustable operating room table, which will be used for the urgent surgical removal of newborn babies when there are concerns for their wellbeing during birth.

It doesn't end there! The Labour & Delivery team uses microscopes as a diagnostic tool to confirm if the mother's amniotic sac has ruptured (that her water broke). This helps to determine if they need to admit the mother in preparation for birth, or if she can safely return home and continue to monitor for signs of labour. The old microscope is in need of replacement, and thanks to 50/50 ticket buyers a new one is on the way!
