The Roar and More

Riders getting ready for the Roar for the Cure at host site, Superior Inn, during the 2025 Tbaytel Motorcycle Ride for Dad event.

A thunderous roar coming from the Superior Inn at 9:15 a.m. today won't be from one of the almost-thunderstorms we've been experiencing for the past week. It will actually be the sound of more than 200 motorcycles starting up and revving their engines at the same time to Roar for the Cure at the Tbaytel Motorcycle Ride for Dad event, happening today.

The day is off to a strong start and will continue with a full day of riding, fundraising, and awareness during Men's Health Month, which is observed every June. Today, riders are taking off on a poker run throughout the city after fundraising for months in support of the Northern Cancer Fund's prostate cancer initiatives. Funds raised through pledging will help fund new HDR brachytherapy applicators at our Cancer Centre, enhancing treatment options for patients close to home.

Even if riders don't fundraise, they still have an incredible day ahead of them. The day begins at the Superior Inn for a buffet breakfast provided by our host site. Then, after the Roar, all the riders head out on a short parade through town.

After the parade, they are sent on a poker run around Thunder Bay and surrounding areas with tons of goodies along the way. There is both an east and a west route with 11 stops each, making for an incredible day of riding. If you see them on the roads today, make sure to give them a wave!

Some riders may even be sporting this years baby blue t-shirt, inspired by the colour of prostate cancer awareness. The shirts were free to riders who registered at the Pre-registration BBQ every May.

Beefcakes Burger Factory, a long time supporter of the event, provides a hearty lunch to the riders and is a great place to stop by and check out some bikes as a spectator.

Following the ride, everyone returns to the Superior Inn for the Awards Ceremony. Topo poker hands are awarded prizes generously donated by local businesses, and our top pledge earners also get to take home some great prizes.

Our Canadian Tire 500 Club are a coveted group of riders who raise over $500 in pledges. This group of riders earn their spot at the front of the parade for the following years ride, free registration, prizes, and of course, bragging rights.

The event is rain or shine, and brings together friends old and new, multi-generational families, groups honouring a loved one, and more. As today's ride gets underway, we're already looking ahead to celebrating 25 years on June 19th in 2027.

This event wouldn't be the success it is without the incredible sponsors who support it. Thank you to Tbaytel, 99.9 The Bay, Country 105, Your Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay Harley-Davidson, Orla Musselwhite Mine, the TBRHSF Board, Epic Cones, Beefcakes Burger Factory, Alloy Technical Welding, and Quirion Financial Services for your support this year.

As we always say, please support the businesses that support our community!

Stay tuned for an announcement about the funds raised at this year's event.
