The Co-Operators Bachelors for Hope Charity Online Auction Raises $21,901 for Breast Cancer Care

The popular The Co-Operators Bachelors for Hope Charity Auction was re-imagined this year to take place online due to the worldwide pandemic. Organizers are delighted to announce that the auction raised a total of $21,901 which will be directed to the Northern Cancer Fund for Breast Cancer. Thanks to this year’s auction sponsors, and the people who bid generously, breast cancer diagnosis and care will be even better at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Funds raised will support the purchase of a new mammography unit with tomosynthesis and stereotactic biopsy in the Linda Buchan Centre for Screening and Assessment. This new unit will ensure patients can access Rapid Breast Assessment; where mammography, ultrasound, biopsy (if required) and one-on-one interaction with a breast imaging radiologist is offered all in one visit. For anyone with a suspicion of breast cancer, reducing the time it takes to be diagnosed or given the all-clear is of huge importance.

Organizing Committee Member Emey Hedricks said, “COVID-19 does not stop cancer and every day people are getting diagnosed. We’re grateful that, even though this auction looked extremely different from years past, that we were able to continue the tradition of ensuring we have access to exceptional breast cancer diagnosis and treatment close to home.”

“Now more than ever, events such as The Co-Operators Bachelors for Hope Charity Auction are important for our community,” said Elaine Graydon, Manager, Special Events, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. “The funds raised go directly back to our Cancer Centre to ensure equipment, like the newest mammography unit, can be purchased. In the midst of a global pandemic, the ability to have care close to home can’t be understated. I’d like to thank the sponsors of this event for their generosity, to those who bid over the course of the auction, as well as the committee members who creatively turned this event into something new.”
