Across Northwestern Ontario, donors are continuing to make HOPE possible for cancer patients and their families. Thanks to generous donors to the Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, patients receiving cancer treatment in Hearst will benefit from a new Computer to help facilitate the transmission of orders and documentation. A grant for $1,825.96 was provided to Hopital Notre-Dame Hospital to fund this equipment.

Josée Mitron, Executive Leader, Long Term Care and Outpatient Services at Hopital Notre-Dame Hospital commented, “Recent attention in health care has been on the architectural design of the department, including its technology and equipment and its effect on patient safety. To ensure we can continue to provide the safe and correct transmission of orders and documentation, we required a new computer. Thanks to this grant, the computer will be located in an area next to the patient so the caregiver does not need to leave the bedside, providing safer patient care. We are very thankful to the Northern Cancer Fund for this grant that will allow us to enhance the cancer care we provide in Hearst.”

Glenn Craig, President & CEO, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation remarked, “We talk about providing closer-to-home care often, but what we really want to provide is exceptional care closer-to-home. Thanks to our donors, we can ensure that cancer patients across Northwestern Ontario don’t have to choose between remaining at home and having quality care. Being surrounded by family and friends is so important during this difficult journey. We are proud to be able to continue to fund critical equipment for cancer care in communities across Northwestern Ontario. ”

This grant represents an ongoing commitment by donors to the Northern Cancer Fund to provide exceptional cancer care for patients receiving care at Hopital Notre-Dame Hospital. This new grant brings the 16-year total of investments to $76,157.96. None of it would have been possible without the community’s continued support of the Northern Cancer Fund.

The Northern Cancer Fund of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is proud to raise funds that 100% dedicated to providing exceptional cancer care for residents of Northwestern Ontario to diagnose, treat and research cancer.
