Spring is often a busy time of year as we prepare to tackle those chores that have long been neglected over the winter months.

For Lee-Anne Camlin, Manager of Legacy Giving at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation,  spring invites an intense longing to purge, refresh, and promote May is Leave A Legacy Month, a national campaign which encourages people to leave a Gift in their Will to charity.

“A Gift in a Will is likely to be the largest charitable gift a person will make in their lifetime,” Lee-Anne said. “In some cases, it can even be transformational. A Gift in a Will to the Health Sciences Foundation can equip specialists with the latest tools and technology, fund vital research, and improve healthcare outcomes. It truly makes my heart smile when I am able to help someone build their vision for a stronger and brighter future in healthcare in our community through a Gift in their Will.”

Like many fundraising professionals, Lee-Anne came to the role by chance. However, it is her affection for healthcare, as a former x-ray technologist, that led her back to her hospital roots where she has been able to marry these two passions.

Lee-Anne joined the Health Sciences Foundation in 2022 and is proud to be part of an amazing team and the collective work they do to improve patient care.

“You don't realize the magnitude of need in our community until you see it firsthand – and the needs within the Hospital are ongoing. There will always be upgrades to care, and the equipment that goes along with it is not only vital but expensive. Helping donors see the benefits of leaving a Gift in a Will – for their estate plans as well as the long-term future of the Health Sciences Centre and the patients it serves – is highly rewarding work.”

Lee-Anne was attracted to Legacy Giving in particular because it is deeply personal. It's about people and building relationships. And like any relationship, you build trust through honest, transparent, and authentic engagement.

“There is nothing more gratifying than to witness the magic that unfolds when you align a donor's interest with a need.”

In her spare time, Lee-Anne enjoys Zumba, camping, reading, and spending time with her favourite people. To start the legacy conversation or to explore how you can leave your mark on the future of local healthcare, contact Lee-Anne at lee-anne.camlin@tbh.net or (807) 684-7110.
