Make a Christmas Wish Come True for Patients at the Health Sciences Centre
Published Monday, November 17, 2025

As we celebrate the season of giving, we are reminded of the incredible kindness that defines our community. Each year, generous donors help bring care, comfort, and hope to patients and families in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.
With the holiday season now in full swing, our hearts are drawn to those who need care the most — from the tiniest newborns taking their first breaths to women seeking emergency support in moments of vulnerability.
This Christmas, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is sharing a very special Christmas Wish List — two essential pieces of equipment that will bring comfort, safety, and dignity to patients and families across our region.
With your support, we can help make these wishes come true, ensuring our hospital has the vital tools needed to provide exceptional care, close to home, when it's needed most.
We invite you to consider a donation to help us cross these two critical pieces of equipment off our Christmas Wish List:
Isolette Bed for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – $30,567
For our tiniest patients, a safe and secure environment is essential as they grow stronger. An isolette is a special bed that keeps newborns warm and closely monitored in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. With older models reaching the end of their lifespan, the new isolette models provide advanced features such as supporting skin-to-skin bonding with parents, creating precious moments of connection.
Birthing Bed for the Emergency Department – $25,473
When women come to the Emergency Department for urgent care, dignity and comfort are essential. Situations such as pregnancy complications or emergency exams can be stressful, and the right equipment makes all the difference. Right now, there isn't a dedicated birthing bed in the ED. This specialized bed provides proper positioning, privacy, and support — ensuring care that is safe, respectful, and compassionate.
A Special Giving Tuesday Focus
This Giving Tuesday, on December 2, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is focusing on raising funds for the Isolette Bed for the NICU — the first item on this year's Christmas Wish List.
Donations made that day will be matched, dollar for dollar, thanks to a generous donor — doubling the impact. Together, we can raise $30,567 to help bring a new Isolette to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, ensuring that the tiniest babies in our region have a warm, safe environment to grow stronger.
