Donating Securities: A Smart Way to Support Local Healthcare

When you donate securities, you're making a tax-smart choice that benefits local healthcare in Thunder Bay & Northwestern Ontario.

3 Benefits of Donating Securities

• When you donate publicly traded securities directly, you don't have to pay capital gains tax — a cost you would face if you sold them first and then donated the money.

• You'll also receive an official donation receipt for the full market value of the securities, based on the closing price on the day the transfer is completed.*

• Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation receives the entire value of your securities — meaning every dollar goes directly toward improving healthcare at our Hospital.
  
  

How to Donate Securities in 3 Steps

1. Download and fill out our securities donation form.

2. Send the completed form to your broker or investment advisor — they will handle the transfer on your behalf.

3. Once the transfer is underway, please notify Lori Sdao, Manager, Finance, by sending a copy of the form to lori.sdao@healthsciencesfoundation.ca
   
   

Donating securities through your estate is also an option, and it can greatly reduce the taxes owed by your estate. Speak with your financial advisor to learn more.

* Securities are considered transferred only once delivery has been confirmed by our custodial agent. It's Foundation policy to sell all donated shares as soon as possible after they are received.
