The Weather Network's Kim MacDonald Bringing Personal Breast Cancer Story to Thunder Bay

For nearly 30 years, Canadians have welcomed Kim MacDonald into their homes as a familiar face on The Weather Network. This October, we get to welcome her to Thunder Bay, but this time, the story she'll be sharing is much more personal.
Kim MacDonald will headline the 33rd Annual Tbaytel Luncheon of Hope presented by Alterna Savings on Friday, October 16, sharing her own breast cancer journey with hundreds of people gathered for an afternoon of hope, community and support for local cancer care.
With the Luncheon now less than a month away and tickets already halfway sold out, I'd encourage anyone who wants to join us to reserve their seat soon. VIP and General Admission tickets are still available.
I'm really looking forward to having Kim here. She has such a natural ability to connect with people, and I think that will really shine through during her keynote and fireside chat.
When we started planning this year's Luncheon, we wanted the room to feel less like a formal event and more like you're gathering with friends and family, having heartfelt conversations and sharing stories. Kim feels like such a natural fit for that.
Her career and personal story even inspired this year's theme, Hope Finds Its Silver Lining.
Kim MacDonald, breast cancer survivor, displays the sunflower tattoo that transformed her mastectomy scars into a symbol of strength, beauty and renewal. Created to mark five years cancer-free, the artwork helped her reclaim confidence after years of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. By sharing her tattoo in a Breast Cancer Canada campaign, she hopes to show others that reconstruction is not the only path to feeling whole after a mastectomy. Her message to those facing breast cancer is simple: stand strong, seek the light and "be a sunflower."
Themes are a bit of a thing of the past when it comes to events, but how could we not lean into Kim's incredible career with The Weather Network? Every storm eventually breaks. Time and time again, I've heard from survivors that one of the biggest takeaways from their journey is how much they've learned about themselves.
That's what I love about the Luncheon. Everyone comes with their own story and their own reason for being there. We remember those we've lost to cancer, support those facing a diagnosis and celebrate survivors, while coming together to help other people in our community.
And that support makes a difference. Funds raised through the Luncheon stay local and directly support the Northern Cancer Fund, helping ensure world-class cancer care is available close to home.
There's lots to look forward to throughout the afternoon too, with fashion from Perfect Fit, a chance to contribute to a large painted mural designed by local artist Vik Wilen, plus the Bling Blitz and Travel Blitz for a chance to win a roundtrip flight for two to any regularly scheduled and marketed WestJet destination.
