Family CARE Grant Provides Reliable Equipment for Dialysis Care

For patients receiving hemodialysis, being weighed before and after treatment is an important part of their daily care. Changes in weight help the healthcare team assess fluid levels and guide fluid removal during dialysis.

Thanks to support through the Health Sciences Foundation's Family CARE Grants program, the Renal Program has a new digital patient weigh scale to replace an existing scale that was no longer operating reliably.

Used by patients every day before and after treatment, the new scale provides Renal staff with a reliable piece of equipment for this routine but important part of hemodialysis care.

Inspired by frontline staff ideas, the Family CARE (Care Advancement Recommended by Employees) Grants program supports smaller but meaningful enhancements that improve patient and family care. Made possible through donor support and Thunder Bay 50/50 participants, the program helps healthcare teams bring thoughtful ideas like this one to life throughout the Hospital.

Sometimes, it's the equipment used every day that quietly plays an important role in patient care. See more Family CARE Grant-funded initiatives at healthsciencesfoundation.ca/familycare.
